Israel is known for developing some of the most advanced technologies in the world. While that’s true for a number of industries, such as Medical and Telecom, in recent years the Cyber Security industry has taken center stage. There are more than 250 companies in Israel that provide a variety of creative solutions for protecting organizations and governments from the growing number of Cyber Attacks. As attacks become increasingly creative and sophisticated, there’s greater need for more robust and future-proof solutions.
Solebit (www.solebitlabs.com) is a young Israeli Cyber Security Start-Up, which takes a logical and conceptually simple approach to protecting cross-industry enterprises, of various sizes, from attacks launched through the execution of malicious code embedded in commonly known data files, such as Word and PDF, which are sent through email. Such attacks could take any number of forms such as data theft, data manipulation, or total network shutdowns.
Embedding malicious hidden code in common data files is no simple task. Those who undertake this criminal effort work hard to identify software vulnerabilities that will enable them to place their code in data files, undetected, such that it launches when the file is opened. Existing, Dynamic Analysis solutions address this threat by opening incoming files in a secure environment where their behavior can be observed, but fall short of providing a fool-proof solution if the malicious code is designed to recognize the environment in which it is launched.
Solebit’s starting point was the assumption that data files should never contain executable code. It therefore developed a sophisticated engine designed to identify the embedded executable code and to block it from entering the enterprise’s network, as an example, through its email server. The simple, conclusive “go / no go” solution takes away the uncertainty that characterizes competing products.
Solebit’s solution, which has already been deployed on three continents, is purely software based. It is simple and quick to install, is based on a virtual infrastructure (can be deployed on premise, with or without a physical footprint, or on the cloud) and does not burden the enterprise’ security team with additional overhead.
